When you check out quick read books you never know what you are going to find as it is a challenge to create a level of depth in a short time but Darkness Rising by A.A. Dhand is one of those that manages to provide a story with true depth and quality to it and thanks to that it is our day 89 of Feed My Reads recommended in 2022 reads.

Detective Inspector Harry Virdee has a lot on his plate. His team is facing government cuts, tensions are building between Bradford’s two rival drugs gangs and his wife Saima is due to give birth any day now.

So when bodies start turning up in the old industrial district, the pressure is on to get the case wrapped up as quickly as possible, or risk a full-scale gang war.

But the man behind the murders is ruthless and pushy. And things are getting personal. Harry must think fast and bend the rules if he wants to keep his city, and his family, safe . . .

Review:

This is my first time reading any work by A.A. Dhand and I had decided to pick up a few of the quick reads titles to be able to sample work by a variety of authors and see if I could find any gems which thankfully I did in this one.

The book is based in Bradford and the playing out of the drug gangs with their turf war and the battle within the gangs for the power and money to rise up the ranks but standing in the way of them are the police and in particular Detective Inspector Harry Virdee.  The book plays out at a good pace and despite being a quick read of less than 150 pages, it is able to deliver plenty of excellent content and showcase an author who it is clear has some real talent.

Overall I would recommend this book and for less than £1 you really can't go wrong.
