Lothar Birkner interview

AUTHOR INTERVIEW

A little introduction:

My name is Lothar Birkner. I live in Germany and have a very changeable life behind me, in which I did a masters in philosophy, worked as a finance manager, but also worked as a taxi driver. Literature has always been my great passion. I only started writing books myself a few years ago.

When did your love of books begin?

My love of books began already at primary school. I remember reading Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn, first in German, later in English. Later I was enthusiastic about classics such as Goethe or Shakespeare. Even at school I began to write some simple short stories myself. But since I had so many interests – which is perhaps my weakness, but also my strength – I didn`t pursue this further at that time.

When did you start to have the wish to become an author?

I never decided to become an author. It was a spontaneous idea when I was over 60. Some friends read it and told me, it was a page turner and so I published it. Later I wrote 3 books in German language and 1 in English. Now I am writing a book, that is something like a “Romeo and Juliet” story against the background of Whites and Native Americans,

How have you found the process for becoming an author?

I can say, it was quite easy for me. I just did, what I liked to do. I spoke with friends about my tries to write, gave them excerpts to read and they gave tips. There were also people among them who dealt professionally with editing and things like that. And so I became I writer step by step, lol

What would you say to those wanting to become an author?

Keep the faith, be confident but also listen to the advice of editors or people who have done a lot of writing, editing or publishing.

Tell us about your book/books:

My first book is about very different people who get on the track of a planned terrorist attack on a nuclear power plant. They experience many adventures and also get new insights (Whoever kills the Innocent / in German. Gott aber schweigt). The second book is about someone, who developed a dangerous biological weapon, does not want it to be used, so he flees and is pursued by the Secret Service. The third one is about people who accidentally uncover a conspiracy of old and new Nazis and go through a lot of conflicts along the way. All my books are exciting thrillers, mostly with a political background. My intentions is to offer exciting entertainment but give inspiration for reflection on some human and political problems too.

If you could say anything to your readers what would it be?

I hope you enjoy my books and find exciting entertainment, but I would be happy if I inspired you to think about current problems too.
