Feed My Reads recommended in 2022 - day 23

For day 23 of our Feed My Reads recommended in 2022 we have an offering from the community, here is Fear and Fury (Adventures of a Villian-Leaning Humanoid #1) by Jamie Jackson, as suggested by Ginnine Josete.

Meet Megaera, Meg for short. She’s like Deadpool, except for funner.

For a girl with the power of fear the recruitment attempts from both sides are never-ending. A self-described not-a-hero, villain-leaning humanoid, Meg just wants to live her life, work her dead-end job and have everyone else (especially the heroes) leave her alone. But when a bigger fish who can turn superpowers back on their users enters the picture and threatens the person Meg loves the most (herself), she must turn to the last group of people she would admit she needs help from.

Forced to team up with the heroes she despises (but won’t murder, because let’s face it, orange is not the new black), Meg will have to face the choices from her past that she won’t get therapy for. Self-centered, snarky, sarcastic and a little bit dramatic, she’s going to have to save the world, even if that wasn’t her intention. And try not to get shot in the process. Because that shit hurts.

Review:

I found this book by following this author on Twitter. I am making a real effort to read and review authors I find there, particularly self published authors.  I loved this book! It was such a fun read. I am a big fan of superhero movies and so I was initially intrigued by this book. The main character has very unusual powers that can be a bit scary (beware reader) but, ultimately, are so amazing. The amount of imagination that went into creating this rather flawed individual and her strengths and weaknesses is something to be credited. On top of that, the author breaks the third wall and talks directly to the reader throughout the book which I LOVED way more than I thought I would. It brings you much closer to the main character and you get much more invested in her world, her frustrations and her flaws. You also find yourself rooting for her and loving her way more than you ever thought you would. Bravo Jamie. I'm looking forward to reading your next book in this series.
