Laura Austin - My Dinner Party
Where are you holding your dinner party?
My dinner party is being held at my home in rural Kentucky. There are beautiful wild areas for my guests to visit during their stay and a lovely bed and breakfast within a 15 minute drive that can host them overnight if they’d like.
What's the occasion you are holding the dinner party for?
I am holding a dinner party in celebration of the completion of my first novel. Not the publication, because I believe the first success has nothing to do with the accolades or recognition of others. The victory comes from achieving your goal and having it written and edited.
Who are your five guests and why are they invited?
My five guests are Indie Book Spotlight, Jill, Raymond Norman, Vicky Ball, Lucy Turns Pages, and Tea April. I know that’s six but these people have been the most supportive of me in the reading community, through comments of encouragement, retweets, and more. There have been many, many others because this is such a great community to be a part of!
What food are you serving?
Due to the varied diets of others, I have several choices available for my guests. They can choose from a Keto menu, full of meat, cheese, and low carb dishes, a vegan menu for those who avoid animal products, and a comfort food menu, with all the homestyle staples. This seems like a lot of food but they will select their choice when they RSVP.
What's your cocktail or mocktail for the dinner party?
I’m not much on alcohol, but I‘ll have a few wines available for those who want it.
What music are you having played during your dinner party?
I have a live quartet playing celtic music. Uilleann pipes, a couple of fiddles, and an Irish flute.
You've raised a book to have a bit of a discussion about, which book is it and why?
We’re discussing Maurice Benard‘s Nothing General About It, because it centers on mental health, which is one of my passions. Ending the stigma surrounding mental illness is the best way to help people who suffer from it. Since the entire point of the book (and the author’s podcast, State Of Mind) is to open conversations, I feel discussing this book at my party is appropriate.
It's time for bed, what book are you retiring to your bed with?
I think I’ll start re-reading “Heartfelt Poetry Collection”, a collection by Wingless Dreamer.
