Book interview - But It’s Okay If I Do It: True Confessions of an Unintentional A$$Hole by Shirley Laffa

Image
Please tell us a little about the book This short, humorous book contains my real-life blunders to entertain and educate readers on what NOT to do. Where did the inspiration come from for your book? Whenever I’d hear an interviewer ask a celebrity about their most embarrassing incident, I’d always think of how many I had to share. I started to write them all down so I wouldn’t forget! How did you find the experience of writing this book? Very cathartic. The book also deals with what many of us experience as excessively worrying about our mistakes, instead of focusing on learning valuable lessons, self-love and moving forward. Did you draw any inspiration from any real life people with any of your characters? Yes – it’s all about my life which has been pretty peculiar, much of the time. If you could say anything to readers of this  book then what would it be? I’m extremely grateful for your kindness in supporting a new author who has funny stories with an encouraging message to shar...

Book review - Innocent Times by Gemma Owen-Kendall

Book - Innocent Times Author - Gemma Owen-Kendall Rating -  Review: Gemma Owen-Kendall brings us a collections of short stories which are overall very high quality reads.  The stories focus on romance or those brief encounters that are so longed for by many and for me the variety of the stories is good, whilst remaining on topic.  The slight mark down is for two things, one is a little bit of editing as I did find some of the stories were going between tenses which is a little bit of a frustration, the other mark down is that I did find a lot of the male characters had the same characteristics (brown spiky hair is mentioned in quite a few of the stories) and for me this at first can seem like a lack of creativity but by the end I felt this was more so an author who has been writing their stories to perfect their craft and compiled them together which is the reason for the similarities felt in some of the stories. Overall this is a really strong read and has made me w...

Book review - Peak Peril (A High-Rise Mystery) by Sharna Jackson

Book - Peak Peril (A High-Rise Mystery) Author - Sharna Jackson Rating -  Review: Living in London and having not been to the countryside, Nik and Norva are on a school trip to the Peak district where they will be staying in a large manor house and taking part in lots of outdoor activities but when certain things start to appear amiss the girls must do what they do best, investigate. This book was a good read overall but for me it was let down by poor editing as there were far too many mistakes.  The overall story worked well and there was some charm to this but by the end I did feel slightly let down overall that it had not been as good as I felt it could have been with that little bit more attention to detail.

J. Dalton interview

AUTHOR INTERVIEW When did your love of books begin? I have always been a voracious reader and can easily finish a book in a day or two. When did you start to have the wish to become an author? Except for work, I had never written anything in my life other than a note on a Christmas card or a sympathy card to someone whose family member had died.  It never crossed my mind to be an author! I had been feeling tired and basically run-down for several months, and even my co-workers had asked if I was alright. Like any man, I ignored all the warning signs. In August of 2016, I had to go in for my yearly physical (required for the company’s insurance policy), and of course, the Doctor had a blood draw done.  The next day, the Dr.’s office called and wanted me to come back in and have another blood test done.  The Dr. was concerned that there was a possibility that the previous test had been processed incorrectly.  I went back, had the blood drawn, and the next day, the Dr. ...

Benn Barbin interview

Image
AUTHOR INTERVIEW A little introduction: I’m Benn. I’m a short-form author, and I like photography and listening to vinyl records with headphones. When did your love of books begin? I’ve loved books since I was a kid. I was always a fan of storytelling and cool ideas, but critical reading in college opened up a world of books and writers I had never read, and that led me down a literary rabbit hole. When did you start to have the wish to become an author? I imagined publishing in high school or earlier, but writing in college motivated me to complete projects and get them out there. It may have taken a while, but it’s all good. How have you found the process for becoming an author? The process has been fun and challenging. It reinforces patience and humility. Nothing is guaranteed when it comes to art—but I’m happy to have released my writing the way I wanted it. What would you say to those wanting to become an author? Read outside the genre you write. You might be surprised and inspire...

Feed My Reads at 6 Months Old with Kendall Carlsson

Feed My Reads recently turned 6 months old and as we are all about those in our community who make the place great we had to reach out to you and make sure our community members know of all those great people they can get to know here and so here are some questions for you. When did you decide to join our Feed My Reads community? I discovered it just after its inception and could see it was an excellent concept. What made you join our Feed My Reads community? I had just published my debut novel “Seven by Seven”, created an author account on Instagram and was actively looking for promotional opportunities. What do you enjoy about being a part of the Feed My Reads community? It is interesting to find out what other authors have created and to learn of their journeys to publication. It’s a tough labour of love in a competitive industry and I have a hell of a lot of respect for anyone who takes it on. Has Feed My Reads helped you in your author journey at all? I am grateful to have had my ...

My Brand New Book Release with Sal Nudo

What's is your new book called?   My new book is titled "Learning Journalism Where Writers Rise: Four Enlightening Years in Graduate School at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign." Where did the inspiration for the name come from? I wish I could say the original inspiration to write this book stemmed from an idealistic desire to teach what I learned about journalism and spark an interest in others to pursue the field, which has gone through turbulent times in recent years. And though the project did evolve into me having those lofty intentions, the reality is that it was initiated by my desire to … well … simply earn some extra cash. It all started with Rob Dial, host of the podcast The Mindset Mentor. One day I was listening to one of Dial’s shows, “How to Make Money Online.” In his enthusiastic way, Dial began relating numerous money-making online endeavors, some of which, he said, raked in millions of dollars. Among other things, Dial said folks could earn goo...
