AUTHOR INTERVIEW When did your love of books begin? I started telling stories the minute I could talk, and I liked it when my mother read me books and taught me how to read, so I could do it myself. When did you start to have the wish to become an author? I never thought about being an author. For most of my life, I wrote poetry and short stories, just for me, or a high school paper or something. In 2004, I wrote my first full-length novel, and it was published in 2005. After that, I learned that I could write not just poetry, short stories, tech documents, but novels. How have you found the process for becoming an author? It's a lot different now than it was then. I started before Google and Amazon were a thing. There weren't online book reviews, just in magazines and newspapers, and you had to work for that media. What would you say to those wanting to become an author? Do it. Don't just say you want to do it, get something on paper, and then ask yourself that again. Anot...

You are going on a date with a book character, it can be any character from any book, who is it and why? My favourite Jane Austen hero, Colonel Brandon from Sense and Sensibility. Still waters, as they say. Quiet and reserved, always the gentleman, he is an unassuming hero; a genuinely good man whose passions and feelings run deep.  Who asked who for the date? I would imagine neither of us would dare presume call it a date, but we exchanged cards and agreed to walk together, with chaperones, of course.  Where are you going for the date and what are the plans? Since we are in Devonshire, perhaps a turn along an excitingly rugged path of the moor, or a tour of Plymouth would be agreeable, followed by tea in a reputable tea shop where Brandon could regale me with tales of his travels as a young man. What are you wearing for the date? No lady of this time would be seen without her empire line dress, a pretty bonnet I have no doubt made up myself, and a good amount of petticoats, ...

Asked to write about the experience of publication day as an author, I find myself with a confession to make. Publication day for me is often a hard day, a low day, often a day I do not look forward to. I understand for many people this would be an exciting day. It is the completion not only of a project and long span of work, but for many the realisation of a dream. Becoming a published author is a dream for many people; it was so for me the first time. The first book I ever published I remember I checked and double checked so many times when formatting, and hitting the save button for release on Amazon KDP was exhilarating. You then wait for sales and reviews, often with both dread and excitement. The first time I published it was very much like this for me, but now, thirty odd books into my career as an indie author, the experience is a little different. I would like to say that I love being an author, and I am well aware how fortunate I am to be able to do what I love for a living....

AUTHOR INTERVIEW When did your love of books begin? I think it really got serious when I was in Fifth Grade (10 years old).  When did you start to have the wish to become an author? I have wanted to be an author since I realized in middle school that I sucked in math and science so brain surgeon was off the table! How have you found the process for becoming an author? It has been long. I got discouraged in my 20s after I first finished and it took me until this year to take the plunge and go for it. AUTHOR INTERVIEW A little introduction: I’ve worked in various fields, starting in law enforcement and ending in information security. Currently, I’m “retired” and travel the USA full time with my wife. Every day I work to improve my writing and help others do the same. When did your love of books begin? I always get intimidated reading these things because it seems like every other author has been reading since they were born and knew they wanted to write from an equally young age. My history is not as impressive. I did enjoy reading when I was very young, but formal education pretty much killed my love of books, math, and science within a few days of starting Kindergarten.  I did not read again “for fun” until in my 30s when a friend bullied me into reading the Wheel of Time. This was around 2012, so I was able to catch up just in time for the last book, A Memory of Light, to be released and could read the whole series straight through. AUTHOR INTERVIEW When did your love of books begin? I've loved books as long as I can remember. My first writing success was in Grade 1.   I was six years old when my story was chosen to be read over the intercom for the  entire school.  When did you start to have the wish to become an author? Back in the 80s and 90s I read sword and sorcery books by author Marion Zimmer Bradley, and I especially liked the anthologies she edited.  Soon I was sending her stories for the Sword & Sorceress anthologies, as well as her other publications. Over the years, she published fifteen of my stories.  I wrote novels, too, and  went through the usual routine of sending summaries and synopses to agents and publishers.
