Leon Stevens interview
AUTHOR INTERVIEW
When did your love of books begin?
I always enjoyed when my father would make up space stories at bedtime. Once I figured out those little marks on the page, I was hooked. Later on, while reading some old science fiction, I would come across some stories that sounded very familiar, ones that my dad had “made up”. Nice try, Dad.
When did you start to have the wish to become an author?
I never thought of myself as a writer, but after going through some tough times, I began to write songs and song lyrics as therapy. Many of leftover ideas became poetry, until I had enough for a book.
How have you found the process for becoming an author?
Hard. There is no right way. What works for one writer may not work, so you have to pick and choose the parts that fit you. Then you have to market. Bleh.
What would you say to those wanting to become an author?
If someone wants to be, then they are already halfway there.
Tell us about your book/books:
I have two poetry collections published. I touch on many topics, from emotions, struggles, the environment, and the human condition. Many are light-hearted and humorous, while some are meant to be read and reflected on. I try not to write to esoterically and try to keep much my writing in simpler terms, except of course for that word back there.
After publishing my first book of poetry, I turned to my favorite genre (see question #1), which lead to a science fiction short story collection. Later, I took one of those short stories and extended it into a novella. Soon after that, I decided I wanted more of the characters I created, so the on novella is now a trilogy.
Oh, and I also have a book of classical guitar music. Cool, huh?
What do you love about the writing/reading community?
I like how everyone is so supportive and helpful. We all want each other to succeed because when one indie author does, it helps all of us.
If you could say anything to your readers what would it be?
I always thank my readers for joining me in my writing journey. There are some who have been there from the start and watched (read?) me grow as a multi-genre author.
