J.K. Flynn interview
AUTHOR INTERVIEW
When did your love of books begin?
When I was very small. Primary school (elementary school to my US friends)
When did you start to have the wish to become an author?
I was about 7 or 8, I think. Used to pull the covers off copy books, turn them inside out and draw book covers on them…then use a stubby, slightly-chewed pencil and begin with a wobbly “Chapter 1”…
How have you found the process for becoming an author?
The process for becoming an author is easy. You just decide you want to write a book and you start writing. The process for becoming a successful author… come back to me in a couple years and I’ll tell you whether I know the answer to that one yet…
What would you say to those wanting to become an author?
Have patience and do some rigorous self-assessment! Everyone’s in such a rush to show it off – take some time to get your own perspective on it. When you think your book is finished, put it away for a couple months and start working on something else. Then go back and read it like a reader. Still like it? (Still like it really?) If the answer is yes, I guarantee you’ll still have found a ton of tweaks and edits to make, so do those and send it out….
Tell us about your book/books:
It’s about a dysfunctional detective whose life is going off the rails. Not only is she struggling with her personal life, but she then finds herself battling with her chief inspector in her attempts to get to the bottom of a killing… a killing that leads to the discovery of a conspiracy far more sinister than she first imagined… (see full blurb at https://jkflynn-author.com/
What do you love about the writing/reading community?
It’s the most imaginative community of all. A story isn’t just what a writer writes – it’s also what the reader imagines. No book is really exactly the same for every reader – people bring their own experiences to a book. All the author does is provide a bit of a blueprint…(ok, maybe a very detailed blueprint, but still, the finished product is the reader’s…)
If you could say anything to your readers what would it be?
Thank you for reading!
Where can people connect with you?
