Taking the leap into reviewing books

Feed My Reads is all about creating a great community of book lovers and as part of this a lot of time is spent speaking to authors and one of the things that has been mentioned time and again is how important it is getting book reviews and how tough it actually is to do this.  Being someone who for a long time hated the thought of writing a book review and that my reviews would be rubbish I personally found it a challenge to actually write a review and so I felt it would be a great idea to address this with a little blog post.


1 - Book reviews don't need to be War and Peace

A book review is simply an honest take on how you felt the book "performed" for you as a reader.  This means that writing a short piece like 'I really enjoyed this book and will be checking more by the author' is a huge thing for the author to see and will make other potential readers see that there are people commenting which could be the difference between them trying the book or not.


2 - Authors genuinely care about and need those reviews

Having spoken to many authors during my time running Feed My Reads I have been amazed at the fact they read the reviews that are out there and that it genuinely matters to them to hear what people felt about there work.  An amazing review makes it worth while for an author and those reviews that aren't perfect enable the author to continue to develop their writing skills and improve on the offerings they can bring in the future.


3 - I hear about Amazon removing reviews so what is the point?

Amazon is not the only place to leave reviews and if they remove your review then you still did your part.  Goodreads is a great place to leave reviews and is one of the major platforms but if you want to be sure your book review will remain in place then you are able to leave reviews on the Feed My Reads blog.  If you are interested in becoming a book reviewer on our blog then please do email us at feedmyreads@hotmail.com for us to help to get this in place.  When emailing you simply need to let us know you are looking to be involved in reviewing and this will enable us to also add you to a contacts list so that you may get chances to get books to review directly from the authors.


4 - It takes time to do book reviews

If you do your book reviews regularly then it actually doesn't need to take up very much time but has a genuine impact on the lives of the authors you are reviewing.

Claude Bouchard interview

AUTHOR INTERVIEW A little introduction: I’m Claude Bouchard, born, raised, and still living in the Montreal (Canada) area. In a prior life, I worked in the corporate world, mainly in human resources management. In 2008, my employer moved our jobs to India and, while I pursued other employment, I published three books I had written long before then continued to write and publish more.
