When did you begin your blog?
November 2020. I had joined a book review team (Rosie Amber’s Book Review Team #RBRT) and had started writing regular reviews so I wanted to put them somewhere all together where I could include Author Bios and more info than just reviewing on goodreads was allowing me. I also discovered the #Norsevember event run by @Blogspells on his blog Spells and Spaceships and I really wanted to take part and contribute to the event - so I needed a blog.
Talk us through your blogging process (eg - do you plan out your reads, your posts, etc)
I do plan my reads - I receive a lot of requests from authors to review their books so I need to keep to a strict schedule in order to meet their publication dates. I also work for a number of blog tour companies which means being assigned a date to post a book Spotlight or review for a particular book as part of the tour.
I review every book I read on my blog (give or take a couple). Each review includes the book cover, blurb, purchase links and an author bio with their contact details in addition to my honest review of the book.
I also have a weekly series of Indie Spotlights which promote Indie authors with set questions and a bio followed by a section showcasing each of their books.
In February I am taking part in #FebruarySheWrote reading mostly books read by female authors. This event is organised by Ben over at @LiteraturenLoFi
Anyone reading/reviewing a book by a female author should use the hashtag #Februaryshewrote on Twitter and Ben will help promote them.
Coming up in March I have an event called March of the sequels where I am planning to read and promote sequels - sequels are notoriously difficult for authors to sell. I have around 20 author interviews which will feature on my blog during March each describing that particular author’s book series with particular emphasis on the sequel(s).
Is there anything that frustrates you about the blogging process?
I wish it was easier to get subscribers - that can be frustrating!
How much time do you donate to your blogging?
Probably around four hours a week (not including reading the books I review).
What one piece of advice would you give to other book bloggers?
Don’t have any expectations for success - that way every comment on a blog or new subscriber is a nice surprise.
