My Ideal Holiday - Lucy A. McLaren

First of all where are you going?

I’ve always wanted to go to Canada and do a tour of the Rockies and surrounding areas. I know far too little about Canada as a country, I just know it’s somewhere that has been on my places I’d love to travel to list for as long as I can remember. So, there! Or Mexico where we went for our honeymoon and it was just beautiful.

Are you going on your own or taking people along (if you're taking people then who are you taking)?

I would take my husband and son (because it feels mean saying I’d go anywhere without them ðŸ˜‚).

How are you getting there?

Flying, of course ✈️  I don’t mind flying. Plenty of time to read!

What 5 books are you taking with you?

Oooh wow, okay, let’s see... His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman (my favourite—can’t read it enough). Something horror, probably the latest Stephen King. A crime thriller because I like those between longer books, something along the lines of Broken Monsters by Lauren Beukes. A Robin Hobb book—I still have so many of hers to read. I’m gonna pick the last book in the Farseer trilogy, Assassin’s Quest, because I’ve been meaning to read that for far too long. And finally the latest Stephan Deas book, The Moonsteel Crown, as I’m a big fan of his books and have yet to read that.

You've arrived, do you unpack straight away or are you going to leave it until later?

I’d unpack straight away because then I’d feel organised and ready to start the holiday!

What are you going to do during your holiday?

See the beautiful sights. I love photographing picturesque places as they always inspire me in my writing, and I don’t think we’d be short of that in Canada. Have new experiences with my husband and son, see these amazing places, try new foods, learn about the culture. And, hopefully, also have time to chill out by the pool, put our feet up, drink mocktails and read (that would be the Mexico option ha).

What memento do you bring back from your holiday?

A photo of the three of us is all I’d need—and perhaps some handwritten notes of inspiration for my next story. ðŸ˜Š
