The Read Your Own Height Challenge with @LdLoz and her daughter Isobel

A little introduction to how the Read Your Own Height Challenge came about -

My daughter is called Isobel. She is 11 years old. Currently 4ft 11 inches.
We came up with Isobels Read Your Own Height Challenge on July 30th after seeing a poster in the local library about the summer reading challenge.  She quickly completed the library challenge and thoroughly enjoyed it.  We decided that I would share how she was getting on with the challenge through my Twitter account.

We then spoke about reading more books as last year in school she was very reluctant to read and wasn't choosing books she enjoyed due to the short amount of time they had in the school library due to covid restrictions at the time but, as it was summer she had access to her own collection of books to read.  Also she loves a bit of competition so I said I'd race her to see who could read their own height in books first.  I'm 5ft 3inches.
Since schools started again she's been picking books from both her schools library and our local library too.

The benefits of the challenge

Isobel has now read 27 books since the 30th of July which we think is amazing.  The total height so far is 1ft 4 Inches.
Since recording the challenge on Twitter we have met lot's of lovely authors, illustrators, book bloggers, independent book stores and reviewers which has further increased her love of books.
Isobel has become pen pals with some of these authors which she loves and finds so exciting.
The Challenge has also been fantastic for encouraging Isobel to read books she wouldn't usually and to set her sights on more difficult books.

We would recommend anyone to have a go at Isobel's Read Your Own Height Challenge.  A couple of children and a school already are.

You can keep updated on the challenge by following me on Twitter at @LdLoz

Many thanks for reading

I think we would all agree this is an amazing challenge and it is amazing to hear how well Isobel is doing and it is great to hear about parents becoming involved too.  So as a result of this we over at Feed My Reads decided that this challenge is something more people should be able to do with a reward to show that they are doing brilliantly well.  As a result of this we now acknowledge the amazing progress readers are making and hope to help to motivate them.  This can be yourself, your child, your partner...it can be anyone!  We have this badge for those who have started the challenge and have badges for each foot read and a badge for when your height is reached too...all you need to do is post to us and ensure you #readyourheightchallenge and tell us who & how many are doing the challenge.  I'd say to also ensure you follow @LdLoz and let her know you are taking part too as I know she would love to hear from you.

What about those who read ebooks I hear you ask?  Well we will count short stories as 1cm and full stories as 1 inch to allow you to take part too.

Please do keep us up to date with your progress with pictures too.
