K.M. Harding interview
AUTHOR INTERVIEW
A little introduction:
Hi, I’m Kerry. I write romantic suspense/thriller books under the name K.M. Harding. Originally, I’m a Lancashire lass, but I now live in Cumbria with my husband, two kids, our crazy dog and a permanently grumpy bearded dragon.
I’ve loved books ever since I was a little kid. There’s nothing I love more than escaping reality and getting lost in a good book.
Even though my love for writing started in high school, it was roughly January of this year I realised becoming a published author was something I wanted. I always thought I was writing for pleasure, but after letting my husband read my work, he suggested publishing and the seed was planted.
How have you found the process for becoming an author?
Interesting. It’s been an incredible journey of highs and lows, and a steep learning curve, for sure, from finding the right editors, the self-publishing process and formatting, and the wonder that is marketing, but I’ve enjoyed every second. My husband is super supportive – literally my rock and sounding board – and visually creative (he designed my book’s cover), and I’ve met some amazing authors, writers and readers through social media who have been more than willing to offer valuable advice and feedback. It’s constant hard work, particularly the marketing, but it’s worth it to see my book out there.
What would you say to those wanting to become an author?
Go for it. Keep writing and don’t give up – there’s a reader out there for every story.
The only piece of advice I’d give is to do your research regarding publishing routes and find the one that works for you. There’s no right or wrong way to publish.
I currently have one book published – a romantic suspense novel called Broken. Without spoilers, it’s best described as a victim to survivor love story. It has some heavy themes and trigger warnings, but ultimately, it centres on the romance.
Originally, Broken was an untitled screenplay I started writing all the way back in 2009. I can’t remember when exactly it transformed into a novel, but after writing on and off for ten years, Broken was finally released in May 2021.
I’m now attempting to write my second novel with the hopes of releasing it sometime next year. I’m determined to make sure book two doesn’t take ten years to write!
Hands down, the support. The writing community is a great place to meet fellow writers, and so far, the people I’ve interacted with have been nothing short of wonderfully supportive. There’s so much talent and diversity in the community, and it’s great to follow others on their author journey. I now have a TBR list as long as my arm though!
The best feeling in the world though, is getting a message from a reader telling you how much their enjoyed your book. It never fails to bring the biggest smile to my face.
Thank you, thank you, thank you! From the bottom of my heart, thank you so much for your support and for giving my story a shot.
Reviews mean everything to indie authors, so please, if you can, take a couple of minutes to leave one. I promise it means the absolute world!
