Elinor Stutz interview
AUTHOR INTERVIEW
A little introduction:
Making it easy –
please see my 'About" page on my website: https://smoothsale.net/about/
When did your love of books begin?
Upon starting my
sales career, I was deemed a stupid female bound to fail, so there was no sense
in spending money to train me. I was nervous speaking with prospective clients,
as I needed to learn about sales. So, I enrolled in the three-month-long Dale
Carnegie public speaking class that changed everything, including my love for
books, beginning with his: How to Win Friends and Influence People. The book
and the training were career game-changers for me!
When did you start to have the wish to become an author?
After a successful
sales career and then entrepreneurship in Silicon Valley, we moved. I
introduced myself to about 200 people on stage as a sales trainer. You can't
imagine my embarrassment after they all laughed me off the stage, believing a
woman couldn't know enough about sales to become a sales trainer. Thankfully,
someone kindly took me aside to say, 'To establish credibility, you have to
write a book!'
My phone wasn't
ringing, and I had nothing better to do. Nice Girls DO Get the Sale was written
and broke many records – these are the highlights:
- The first publishing house, Sourcebooks,
agreed to publish
- Featured in TIME Magazine
- Interviewed on CBS-TV with Christian Spencer
- Quickly became an International Best-Seller
due to women globally experiencing similar events
- Last year, the book became Evergreen – among
the Classics!
All of the above was paying attention to why the laughter on stage to introduce myself and, listening to excellent advice, taking the better steps to respond. I refer to the insightful content as a 'corporate tell-all with names changed to protect the guilty.' Readers begin to realize the discrimination against women, how I stood up to the bullies, and my instincts and strategies for outselling the men, for readers to use similar techniques.
How have you found the process for becoming an author?
As indicated
above, the process was easy. It's because I had exceptionally needed insight
for the audience awaiting it.
What would you say to those wanting to become an author?
Even after my book
was published and the publicity began, my so-called friends told me, 'It's
stupid content, and I had no business writing the book.' Nastiness surrounded
me, but I learned early on not to pay attention! My fix: I changed my friends
and sought peers who were into the collaborative effort.
My words of
advice: Never Give Up! To excel beyond expectations, my near-death visions and
excellent outcome prompted my Motto:
‘Believe, Become, Empower.’ Believe you can do it, Become that person,
Reach to communities by sharing your best.

Nice Girls DO Get
the Sale: Relationship Building That Gets Results, Sourcebooks 2006, Now
Evergreen! My answer to Question #3 above includes the details about the book. https://amzn.to/39QiVZw
A near-death experience due to an 'irreparable broken neck' indicated I was to begin giving back to communities. In the moment I pledged to do so – I saw a blink of a bright gold light, and I knew I would be well. I shocked the entire medical staff! But I never forgot my commitment.
Getting started
with community service – I began teaching job seekers how to sell themselves on
interviews. The many thank you notes for helping individuals attain their job
of choice gave way to writing HIRED! How to use Sales Techniques To Sell
Yourself On Interviews, in 2011.
The book was
featured on FEDEX book stands coast-to-coast across the U.S. https://amzn.to/33LP2pv
What do you love about the writing/reading community?
It is a first-time
opportunity to be welcomed into an author group to share our wisdom via the
content we write, support one another, and, hopefully, marketing strategies,
too!
If you could say anything to your readers what would it be?
Do what you believe, focus on that something, and continue with it no matter what others say and think. Your words are your unique work of art waiting for you to share with the public.
Additionally, find
a complementary venue for your work to gain visibility for your book. For
example, I write a blog, which has significantly helped the visibility of the
books.
