AUTHOR INTERVIEW

When did your love of books begin?

Ever since I was a young child, books were an important part of my life. Growing up our house was bursting at the seams with all kinds of literature. Reading was a huge pastime for my mum and grandmother and they always had their noses in a novel.

Every three weeks my grandmother took me to the library. I loved our time there. The smell alone could entice me there and I felt rather grown up being allowed inside what was predominantly an adult world. It was a magical place. Surrounded by so many beautiful books I sensed the respect other readers showed the written word and this is where my love of books evolved.

When did you start to have the wish to become an author?

I didn’t start out to be an author. I just wanted to write a book. When I’d completed my first YA novel ‘Sinners of Magic’ and had it published, I was suddenly an author.

How have you found the process for becoming an author?

I didn’t find the process of becoming an author difficult. What I did find hard was getting my first book published. Once you’ve succeeded getting your work published, the rest automatically follows.

What would you say to those wanting to become an author?

Do it but do your homework first. Check what’s current and what bookshops are selling. Take a good look at the covers of the bestselling books in your genre. Which one caught your eye first? Read the genre you wish to write. Know your subject inside-out and learn what your readership wants in a book.

Tell us about your book/books:

I’m a multi-genre author and had my first novel published in 2014. Since then, I’ve written a further three fantasy novels, two romance books, a short story collection and two popular children’s stories.

Fantasy:
Sinners of Magic
Betrayers of Magic
Defenders of Magic
Clump, A Changeling’s Story

Romance:
Cracks in the Glass
Two Kinds of Truth

Children’s Books:
Hoglets’ Christmas Magic
Hoglets’ Birthday Surprise

Short Story Collection:
Cat Thief & Other Short Stories (Only available via Amazon Kindle)

What do you love about the writing/reading community?

Before I started writing I’d never met such supportive and wonderful communities.
I soon learned that the writing community is a warm and friendly place and there to help. Whether you’re a novice or have years of knowledge and experience, the writing community supports authors with their ambition to achieve their goals.

Then there’s the reading community who are a vital lifeline to writers. Without such communities, lots of wonderful books would never be read or reviewed. The reading community has many talents and they give up a lot of their free time to support authors and their books. Quite selflessly at times, a lot of the reading community help promote the books they enjoy and often push a book from obscurity.

If you could say anything to your readers what would it be?

I would say a great big ‘thank you’. No author will ever be successful without readers. Readers are an author’s lifeline and without them there would be no reason to write. As corny as it may seem, whenever a book is read, an author’s dream comes true.
