H.C. Newell interview

AUTHOR INTERVIEW

When did your love of books begin?

In 1st grade. I picked up a Junie B. Jones book and never looked back!

When did you start to have the wish to become an author?

Being a storyteller has always been a part of who I am. Since I could pick up a pencil I’ve been writing. My passion became reality when I decided to print out the final draft of what would become my first novel (Curse of the Fallen) and people were so intrigued it made me seriously consider stepping into the published author world!

How have you found the process for becoming an author?

Hard, but rewarding. As with any skill, it develops and grows with practice. Being an independent author is a business and doing it all on my own I can say firsthand that it takes a lot of time, dedication, and motivation to see success. But it’s also incredibly humbling and uplifting to know that you’ve created this entire story that other people now get to experience for their own. The ideas that once lived only in your head are being shared with the world. It’s a great experience.

What would you say to those wanting to become an author?

Practice, research, network, and have fun. Writing a book is the easy part. Find beta readers or critique partners that will help you hone your craft and brainstorm with you. Join the reading/writing community online and make some awesome new friends. Don’t give up. It’s a tough market, and sometimes you’ll want to quit – but don’t! Keep going. Keep writing. And keep putting yourself out there. We all start from the bottom. Instant success happens to the 1%. Your time will come. Just keep going.

Tell us about your book/books:

Fallen Light is a dark fantasy series that will consist of 9 books when complete (6 main novels and 3 corresponding novellas)

The story follows Nerana, a sorceress who is born into a world where magic is forbidden. She’s forced into hiding by the Order of Saro and seeks to find redemption for herself, and to free her people from the Order’s reign.

My books will appeal most to fans of The Witcher, Game of Thrones, Skyrim, and Final Fantasy X

What do you love about the writing/reading community?

Everyone is so helpful and warm and inviting. I’ve never felt like I don’t belong here. Whether you’re a reader, writer, reviewer, or book seller, everyone is family, and I’m so grateful to be part of it.

If you could say anything to your readers what would it be?

Thank you. I never expected my books to EVER be published, and to have so much love and support and encouragement is beyond my wildest dreams. You all make this possible for each and every one of us. We couldn’t do it without you.

Where can people connect with you?
