T.C. Pulley interview

AUTHOR INTERVIEW

A little introduction:

My name is Talor, but when it comes to writing I prefer T.C. Pulley. I have been telling stories for years, creating worlds for my friends to disappear into with me growing up, and then creating my own to help me cope with this crazy world of ours. I have so many different stories to tell and I'm working on finding out which ones I should tell in what order, but I believe the story of P.O.W.E.R.S. is the absolute best place for me to start and I hope everyone enjoys the story as time goes on!

When did your love of books begin?

One particular stormy summer, we lived in an apartment complex that would often have the power go out. It would be hours between when it would go off and then come back on, and my mom would sit me and my step siblings around the kitchen table, light this large candle that we only used for these occasions, and would read to us. She started with the Harry Potter series, and then when the weather got better and the lights didn’t go out as much, I was left hanging on a chapter that I was dying to know how it ended. So, I grabbed the book to read it myself. The rest was history!

When did you start to have the wish to become an author?

Originally, the very first story idea that came to me in a dream, and that dream looked like it belonged in a video game as an extremely amazing and epic cut scene. The whole next day at school (I was in the 6th grade) I couldn't stop planning the whole story out and thinking of how to turn it into a videogame. It didn’t take long for me to find out just a small portion of what I would have to do to be a videogame designer, and it was a bit out of reach, but I still wanted to tell that story. That's when the idea of making it a book came to mind and I have been stuck on wanting to be an author ever since. (That story hasn't been shared yet, but is evolving as I experience more and one day will be shared with everyone if I have anything to say about it.)

How have you found the process for becoming an author?

It has been interesting to say the least. I'm lucky that my mother has supported me 100% from the very start and believed that I could get published if I wanted to. Meanwhile, plenty of others have seen it as only a hobby and asked me what my real job would be. I only submitted my story to two traditional publishers, but I was ultimately rejected (but I give those publishers credit, they let me down very gently). I am lucky that the ability to self-publish more attainable, because there are aspects of my stories that I'm afraid traditional publishers may take out. I could be wrong, but even though I have to do all the leg work and marketing and putting myself out there, I'm happy because I'm telling the story I want to tell.

What would you say to those wanting to become an author?

Know that there will always be someone telling you that you can't. You have to believe in yourself, but also believe in the story you want to tell. It may not be everyone's cup of tea. It may not be part of the current fad that's sweeping through people at the time, but if you tell the story that you believe in, someone will read it and you will reach them. Even if you never even know it, your words will sing for someone else even if you're not sure it will.

Tell us about your book/books:

P.O.W.E.R.S. is a unique story in that, it's been built and made by more than just myself. It was actually part of a table top role-playing game that I played with four other people. Our game wasn't the first telling of it either, and it’s a story that has been built over 20 years with unique characters that were created and at one point or another controlled by an individual person. After 3 game sessions, I approached the "Game Master" and my fellow players if I could turn our campaign into a book series, and everyone agreed to it. So now, I'm writing an amazing story that has more than just my own voice in it and I think its pretty unique as the series will go on with just how certain interactions and choices made by characters affects it all. I am humbled that they allowed me to do this, and I will spend the entire series trying to do each character the justice they deserve, as well as the story itself.

What do you love about the writing/reading community?

The support and networking of the reading and writing community is amazing. So far everyone I have interacted with is so willing to help each other out and network, but also the sheer talent is astounding. I have already saved quite a few books and in between working on mine, will be reading and leaving reviews when I have the chance. I wish I had taken part in this community a long time ago, but now that I'm here I don't want to leave anytime soon!

If you could say anything to your readers what would it be?

First of all, thank you for reading and giving my story a chance. Second, I may end up doing a lot of different book series across all different genres and if one may not be your cup of tea, once I get more out, I would ask you give them a try. There may be something. Ultimately, I hope you enjoy the adventures and if my stories can help bring you any kind of joy, then I have done more than I could have hoped for.

Where can people connect with you?

I'm most active on Twitter and Facebook. I have an Instagram and YouTube account, but I haven’t established myself much on those yet. I am still working to grow and I would be delighted if you amazing fellow readers and writers would come with me!!
