Sargey Ravenwood interview
AUTHOR INTERVIEW
A little introduction:
My author name is Sargey Ravenwood, pronounced Sarge-y, I am from the land of Australia, and aged in my mid-twenties. So far I have written 4 books. A standalone fantasy book, a fantasy duology, and a short story set in Australia. My favourite books are Lord of the Rings.Outside of writing I play a game called GeoGuessr at a high level.
When did your love of books begin?
When I was a child I always had to find my own way to pass the time. This lead to reading a lot.
When did you start to have the wish to become an author?
That reading eventually turned to writing, and making my own stories. I had a particular interest in medieval fantasy and battles and all that good stuff. At some point I stopped, then took writing back up again before making the Walls of Winter. Actually part of the inspiration for that comeback was being disappointed with the quality of some fantasy media around that time, and wanting to see if I could make better stories.
How have you found the process for becoming an author?
Also I found learning more about the technical aspects of writing interesting. About the way narratives are built and how to get the story across to the reader.
What would you say to those wanting to become an author?
Firstly, enjoy writing for writing, don't set out to become the next George RR Martin or whoever. Secondly, just get the words down on the page you'll never be an author unless you actually write and finish that book you need to write.
Tell us about your book/books:
Walls of Winter is about a city in a frozen land. We follow the Wardens who patrol the snow to protect the city and its people from malevolent forces.
Nowhere is a very short psychological mystery set in outback Australia
King Arthur vs Robin Hood (2 parts) is a twist on both legends by having both figures of folklore living in the one fantasy world.
What do you love about the writing/reading community?
I've found the writing community to be warm and welcoming so far, for the most part. Most folk I've seen are happy to talk about books and writing, and are happy to support other authors/writers.
If you could say anything to your readers what would it be?
Thanks for reading! It's the readers who motivate the writers to keep making books.
