L.M. Pratt interview
AUTHOR INTERVIEW
A little introduction:
Hello! I'm Lauren Michelle Pratt and I'm an author, editor, and interior book designer. I run my own business and freelance edit for other authors and small businesses, and in my spare time I write and publish novels.
When did your love of books begin?
I didn’t fall in love with reading until after high school. I was too busy reading what was required for class instead of reading for fun. Books became an escape for me in college, and then in my mid-twenties, my TBR list really took off.
When did you start to have the wish to become an author?
I've wanted to be an author since middle school. Creative writing classes were my haven, and I was always eager to express myself through the written word. Writing was a form of therapy for me back in those days, and the sheer excitement of creating something and building a story from scratch has hooked me ever since.
How have you found the process for becoming an author?
Publishing can be a long, arduous process, especially if you're trying to go the traditional route. So many roadblocks, rejections, and financial expenses pop up along the way. And even if you choose to self-publish, it's all about making your book visible to readers. That itself is an enormous uphill battle. Still, I always find myself coming back for more. The struggle is part of the journey, and if you refuse to let that tear you down, it will make you stronger, wiser, and better.
What would you say to those wanting to become an author?
As cliché as it sounds, do not give up on your dream. This industry is tough, and sometimes the urge to quit is overwhelming. Work on your craft as much as you can. Read. Write. And then hire an excellent editor to help you take your story to the next level.
Tell us about your book/books:
I have two New Adult romance novels published under the name Lauren Michelle—Chasing Mia and Catching Raven. I also have a paranormal romance under the name L.M. Pratt titled Solstice. That one is co-authored with my fabulously talented friend Carol Sabel Blodgett. We're currently working on book 2, Purgatory, and we hope to have that out later this year. So if you’re looking for a fast read with some badass witches just in time for Halloween, check out our work on Amazon.
What do you love about the writing/reading community?
I love how passionate these groups are. I’ve made so many wonderful friends through reading and writing communities, and I’ve found some great reads in those circles as well.
If you could say anything to your readers what would it be?
Thank you for taking the time to read my books! Readers are the reason why I love what I do, and this job wouldn't be nearly as much fun without them.
