Book review - The Vigilante by John Steinbeck

Review:

John Steinbeck is one of those authors who needs no introduction but for many they have never read any of his work and so I decided to pick up this set of three short stories to see how I felt about their writing.

The Vigilante sees a man return from a lynching and how they feel having been involved in this.  A simple tale and a look at humanity at its worst.

The Snake is about a male laboratory worker who has snakes and rats within the lab, he is visited by a lady who wishes to purchase a snake and leave it within the laboratory for her to return and feed it with said rats from time to time.

The Chrysanthemums is about a lady who has planters hands meaning she is able to grow Chrysanthemums to look stunning, she is visited by someone who fixes pots and pans and sharpens knives who is simply looking for some work.

I will not create any spoilers but for me there really aren't any possible as the stories each felt like they would be building to something and then came to nothing.  I found each story to be well written but an utter let-down as they simply felt like they fell flat at the end and like I had wasted time with them.
