Feed My Reads recommended in 2022 - day 80

We love when we are able to give a recommended read that comes from the Feed My Reads community authors and our day 80 of Feed My Reads recommended in 2022 comes from Ginnine Josete with her book Living With Chickens.

Gladys is a middle aged widower who's trying to navigate a world full of new technology. She watches her neighborhood with binoculars, asks Mrs. Google questions about everything and talks with her favorite pet rooster Sam. Will Gladys exasperate Mr. Johnson to the point of no return? Will she continue to find her own way to master the Interweb? Will you be able to follow her long winded conversations with her daughter Lillian or her craft group of like minded women?
Laugh out loud with this light hearted story that will make you root for a happy ending for this female busybody that will steal your heart as she finds her way in a bright new future.

Review:

Living With Chickens is a book that follows the story of Gladys, a 50-something year old who lives on her own, other than her chickens that she has, uses her tablet and the help of Mrs Google to find answers to questions and has many unique quirks that can either make her endearing or a nightmare.

After Gladys finds some mushrooms in her garden she decides to try them and suddenly finds herself having much more confidence, sleeping better, etc but are these mushrooms maybe magic?

This story is very well written and Gladys is one of those characters that we all know, that one who answers a question with 'uh, erm, well, yes, no, ah but you see, what did you ask again?' and when we aren't exasperated by them we find them loveable.  Can Mr Johnson, the next door neighbour see past the exasperating woman and find that loveable part that is buried deep down or will Sam the rooster have crowed too much for Mr Johnson to see anything beyond the frustration of the noise nuisance?

I found that I really did enjoy this book and wasn't sure where it was going at times, what to expect next, whether I was rooting for Gladys or finding her annoying and for me this all added to the feel of the book.  I found the story to have endearing characters, that unique feel that is rare to come across and the only real mark down is due to a little editing but I could see past this to find a great story that really is worth checking out.
