Forest Magic by Verena Key
Author: Verena Key
Synopsis:
After divorce and the death of her mother, disappointed in her life, Nelly comes to a small village surrounded by hills and trees to work in a restaurant and hide from the world. During one of the walks, she comes across a dark and ominous house in the middle of the forest. An accident forces her to ask its inhabitant for help, who turns out to be a man Nelly feels drawn to more than she likes to admit. But is he really a monster, which everyone, including himself, seem to think he is? And how is he connected to a disappearance of a young girl from the village? Nelly is faced with a tough choice to either stay and fight for what is right, or leave and find another hiding place, forfeiting her chance for happiness.
“She caught the last ride to the village and happily exchanged high heel shoes for a pair of tracking boots that she carried in the bag. It was warm and cozy in the train compartment, a carriage fit for Cinderella, who escaped from the ball at the last possible moment. No, Nelly corrected herself, not Cinderella. Beauty and the Beast. There was a dark forest, and a storm, and a castle on the hill where the Beast lived. All that was missing were the villagers with pitchforks. And a Beast that wanted to be saved.”
