D.C. Malcolm interview
AUTHOR INTERVIEW
When did your love of books begin?
My love of books started when I was around four or five years of age. I had a soft spot for The Tales of Timmy Tiptoes, and from there my love of books grew. I read a lot of Judy Blume growing up, and R.L. Stine.
When did you start to have the wish to become an author?
I wanted to become an author around six years old, they had a contest at my school and I submitted a short story based on the Bloody Mary legend. (it was a Halloween contest). The teachers told me I should become a writer, and I decided that's what I wanted to be. But life got in the way, and I postponed my dream for quite a few years. When I turned thirty-six, I decided to take it seriously.
How have you found the process for becoming an author?
I'm still technically in the process, and it's been challenging. It's a struggle in the beginning and sometimes you don't know if your good enough or just playing make-believe. Yet it's also been rewarding on some days, when someone shows interest or support.
What would you say to those wanting to become an author?
I'd first tell them to make sure they have tough skin. It's cut-throat out there and can be scary at times. You might even want to give up some days but be persistent, and keep trying you can do this.
Tell us about your book/books:
My Debut novel, Guilty Deceptions is a historical mystery set in 1869 Saint John New Brunswick. It's also a fictionalized story based on a true crime. It follows the investigation of a mysterious double murder that happens in the smaller community of Willow Grove.
My lesser-known book, Whispers in the Darkness is a collection of Short Stories.
I'm currently working on my second novel. Another historical mystery that takes place about a year after Guilty Deceptions. It's untitled right now and still a WIP, but I hope to have it completed before the end of the year.
What do you love about the writing/reading community?
I think that the writing and reading community is a great place. Everyone supports each other, and it gives you a higher chance of potential readers, reading your books.
If you could say anything to your readers what would it be?
I can only hope you enjoy reading my books as much as I enjoy writing them. Also, always do your best to give honest reviews because authors can always use the feedback.
