Aimee C. Trafton interview
AUTHOR INTERVIEW
A little introduction:
My name is Aimee C. Trafton, a children's author, writer, blogger, and eLearning Specialist from Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada. My first children's book, the award-winning "Amber Tambourine and the Land of Laugh-a-Lot" was published in May 2021. (Austin Macauley Publishers USA). I also have a blog called "Life Lessons for My Daughter" that I started when my daughter was born in order to share life advice and personal stories for her as she grows.
When did your love of books begin?
Definitely very young, my Mum and Dad were both avid readers and there was always lots of books around the house. My early childhood favorites were Anne of Green Gables, Charlotte's Web, Little Women, and The Secret Garden. And I am also a HUGE Dr. Seuss fan.
When did you start to have the wish to become an author?
I think I secretly always wanted to be a writer, but as with most people, never thought I could make a living at it, so put the dream aside. But forgot that you can also just write as a hobby, a passion, it doesn't necessarily have to be a full-time career path.
How have you found the process for becoming an author?
It is all very new to me, as I just started trying to get my work published at the age of 40! I started off writing articles for sites like Medium and Blasting News, then started writing a few children's stories and submitting. I got very lucky with my "Amber Tambourine" book (which is based on my real-life daughter) and worked with Austin Macauley Publishers USA to have my first children's book published at the age of 46!
What would you say to those wanting to become an author?
While getting published is a dream come true, if you love to write - just write! Write what you are passionate about, don't worry about making it a full-time career necessarily - just write because you have a passion for it. I wish I had done that much earlier in life instead of waiting until my 40s.
Tell us about your book/books:
What do you love about the writing/reading community?
They are very supportive and knowledgeable, they can always answer any questions you have about almost every topic involving writing or publishing.
If you could say anything to your readers what would it be?
Follow your passions and try to find a reason every day to be happy - life is so short, it really is! Grab any chance at happiness you have and never let go.
Where can people connect with you?
