Rochelle Bradley interview

AUTHOR INTERVIEW

A little introduction:

Hello, I’m Rochelle Bradley. I try to put an artistic spin on everything, but there are two things I fail at miserably:

1. Cooking (seriously, I can burn water)

2. Sewing (buttons immediately fall back off)

But I love baking and make a mean BTS (Better than Sex) cake. When in observation mode I’m quiet, however, my mouth is usually open with an encouraging glass-is-half-full pun or, quite possibly, my foot.

I am a Bearcat, a Buckeye, an interior decorator, and fluent in sarcasm.

I share my home in southwest Ohio with three kitties, my daughter, son, and Prince.

When did your love of books begin?

I’ve always enjoyed escaping from reality. I remember sitting on my grandmother’s lap as she read to me at an early age.

When did you start to have the wish to become an author?

I have “epic” dreams. In these dreams I see the world through someone else’s POV. They play like a movie, and I never forget the details. In 2008, when my son when to school, I decided to get the stories out of my head. After eight weeks, I had an 80k manuscript. Publishing seemed like a logical next step, although I had to learn a lot. I didn’t publish my first book until 2017.

How have you found the process for becoming an author?

I owe a lot to NaNoWriMo. NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) is a nonprofit organization. I found my genre and my voice. I met other authors in my city and followed their progress, learning what it took to be a hybrid or indie author. I went to writing conferences, joined organizations and an online critique group, and took online courses to improve my craft. There is always something new to learn. You are continually growing as a writer.

What would you say to those wanting to become an author?

You can do it! Only you can tell the story in your head.

A great opportunity for pre-published authors is to join the NaNoWriMo.org community. You can find your region and connect with local writers on the forums (or whatever social media they have) and in person. NaNo is every November. You strive to write 50k words in thirty days. There are also Camp NaNo twice a year with lesser word count goals. It’s a great way to make friends and network. My first published book I wrote during November of 2013.

Tell us about your book/books:

I write romance with sass and shenanigans. I have a six book romcom series. Imagine the puns and innuendos of an Austin Powers movie set in a small Texas town and you’ll get a flavor for the Fortuna, Texas series.

The first book, The Double D Ranch is a slow burn, friends to lovers romance where a man is dared to read romance novels. He gets hooked and dares other men. Soon all the men of town are reading the spicy books, acting out scenes, and starting book clubs. There are four full length novels and two novellas in the series. The seventh, Cole’s New Song, will be released April 2022 in the Authors and Dancers Against Cancer anthology.

The Fortuna Dare Society: A Book Club for Men is a spin off series and follows six men in book club. Brad is releasing March 2022.

Dragonfly Wishes is a Grimm Brothers’ fairy tale retelling of the Fisherman and His Wife. A dragon shifter spies a sad girl through a magic portal and longs to comfort her. When he ventures through the portal he is transformed into an itty-bitty dragonfly. From the top of the food chain to the bottom. Dragonfly Wishes was my first audiobook.

I also write under the pseudonym: Desire Hardmann. She’s an ornery elderly ex-striper from the Fortuna series (she’s in all the books). She writes short erotic romps with funny titles such as Two Cocks in the Hen House.

What do you love about the writing/reading community?

Can I say everything? Lol. Since I write romance, I am mostly around romance authors and readers. This is my tribe. The events are awesome. The people are fabulous. You find encouragement, fun, and inspiration.

I love meeting other authors for coffee. Even if we are supposed to write, it is helpful to have someone there to bounce ideas off of or get suggestions.

If you could say anything to your readers what would it be?

Thank you! You are awesome. I appreciate the feedback you’ve given me, and I love meeting you at author events.
