R.J. King interview
AUTHOR INTERVIEW
When did your love of books begin?
When I was young, way back in elementary school. I’ve always been a bookworm
When did you start to have the wish to become an author?
This started back in one of the first classes I took in college. I was introduced to the works of Raymond Carver and fell in love with his style. It seems simplistic, and I thought to myself, I can do that. I gained a greater appreciation for his talent once I realized it wasn’t that easy.
How have you found the process for becoming an author?
The process has been mostly fun, though hard at time. It’s definitely the kind of work I enjoy.
What would you say to those wanting to become an author?
Read, read, and read some more. Of course, work on writing, but I’ve found that reading a wide variety of works has helped me improve with my own work. At least I feel like I’ve been improving.
Tell us about your book/books:
I wrote the one book I have out now, A Shepherd of Wolves, back in 2012, hence the reason the present action in the book takes place in 2011. It’s about a detective and serial killer who come from the same town. The story goes back and forth between the present and past, showing they came to be the men they are. I tried to make it a character study as much as a crime novel.
What do you love about the writing/reading community?
I’m still fairly new to engaging with the community (mostly on Twitter), but I’m finding the community as a whole to be very friendly and supportive. I’m enjoying learning about other people’s works. Engaging with other writers has done away with the notion of being in competition with other writers.
If you could say anything to your readers what would it be?
Aside from the obvious “buy my book” I would say…”Please help me get my writing career off the ground and I promise to provide compelling works in the future.” So basically just “please buy my book.” Also, if you read my book and are on Goodreads please leave a rating. It’s unhealthy, but I’m obsessed with the site and the feedback I can get on there.
Where can people connect with you?
Twitter is the place I’m at the most: @RJKingW4L
Feel free to reach out there.
I also have a website: rjkingauthor.com
There’s not much going on there, but you can contact me through it.
I’m also on Goodreads, of course.
