Jay Willowbay interview
A little introduction:
Hi, I’m Jay Willowbay, an erotica author specialising
in female domination, usually focussing on the psychology and seduction more
than the physical act.
When did your love of books begin?
It’s hard to put a start date on love of books. I
think I progressed pretty quickly, and was reading at a teenage level when I
was six or seven, I couldn’t get enough.
When did you start to have the wish to become an author?
I wrote stories from a young age too, but it was
something I did for fun, never with any thought to it being a career. But
gradually I came to realise this was something I could really do.
How have you found the process for becoming an author?
Becoming an author has actually been a relatively
painless process, and we have digital media to thank. You can self-publish with
a few clicks, and it has absolutely opened up the world to myself and so many
others. The challenges are different to published authors from the past: we go
without an advance, we have to be our own manager, agent, PR, and pay for
anything we can’t do ourselves, and when the book is out it’s in a saturated
marketplace. But at least we’re in there with a shot.
Could I have been traditionally published in the old
days? I like to think so, but just the whole process of printing a manuscript,
posting it to agents and publishers, and waiting for replies, seems laborious,
time consuming, and expensive, and I’m glad I haven’t had to go through it.
What would you say to those wanting to become an author?
I wouldn’t discourage anyone from being an author. I would just suggest
that they consider the advantages and disadvantages listed above, and don’t
expect to get rich quick (if ever). Above all though, be proud of your work,
and proud to be an author. It really is a wonderful thing.
Tell us about your book/books:
I have three solo books out, and two anthologies as an
editor/contributor. My debut solo book is a black comedy novella called Shagnasty,
in which two young men starting work at a new office make a challenge and bet
to try and sleep with every woman who works there. But the narrator protagonist
goes from cheeky Jack the Lad to a narcissistic sociopath, who will go to any
lengths to make sure he wins.
The other two are female domination short story collections,
The Femdom Factory Volumes 1 and 2, where women always get the upper
hand, whether through seduction, manipulation, hypnosis, or pure strength.
And if sexy femdom
short stories are your thing – and why wouldn’t they be? – then you’d love the
two collections I edited: He Will Obey and The Femdom Coven. He
Will Obey won Silver at last years Golden Pigtail Awards, and both The
Femdom Coven and my own The Femdom Factory: Volume Two are eligible
for this year’s awards, and hopefully there’s still time to nominate and/or
vote.
What do you love about the writing/reading community?
It’s a great community, so talented, but so friendly
and supportive too. And I’m luckier than most in that editing the anthologies
has introduced me to so many new writers too.
If you could say anything to your readers what would it be?
Keep on reading! Me if possible, then anyone in the
Femdom Coven collective, and then just anyone. Read, enjoy, and preferably
review, and you will help sustain all these writers to keep doing what they
love doing.
Where can people connect with you?
My Twitter page would be best, https://twitter.com/JWillowbay, I also blog at https://jaywillowbay.wordpress.com/, and have a Facebook
page, albeit less active, at https://www.facebook.com/JayWillowbayWriter. I also have an Amazon
author page at https://www.amazon.co.uk/Jay-Willowbay/e/B092TTPQ4S.
