Reed Alexander interview
AUTHOR INTERVIEW
A little introduction:
I'm Reed Alexander. A Horror writer from the Capital Region, NY. I specialize in the terrifying, the macabre, and the bizarre.
When did your love of books begin?
I had a strained relationship with reading until I was 12. I was illiterate until about that age and struggle with reading and writing for many years after that. I wasn't writing at my proper education level until I was in my second year of college. But I remember a book of horror poetry from my childhood called NIGHTMARES: POEMS TO TROUBLE YOUR SLEEP, and I loved it. I wanted so badly to be able to read it but had to wait many years before I'd be able. Until that point I basically had to have it read to me.
When did you start to have the wish to become an author?
I guess I was 15, writing gamers fanfic that was so bad I'd never show it to anyone. Bad grammatically, I mean. The first thing I wrote that I showed someone was when I was about 25 or 26. It was also terrible lol
How have you found the process for becoming an author?
Took a lot of time to hone my skills. Stories I had. Stories worth hearing (I hoped). But the skills to really write them took time. Years. The first thing I wrote to completion took over 10 years of rewrites and very patient editors. By the time it was done, I'd finally improved to a poiny where I was good enough to be published. I still have some pretty serious struggles.
What would you say to those wanting to become an author?
I say this a lot. "Get used to hearing the word NO, and don't despair." You are GOING to get rejected by publishers. This is not a reflection of you as a writer, or the quality if your work. There are hundreds if reasons why a publisher would reject any given piece and it's not a reason to give up.
Tell us about your book/books:
What do you love about the writing/reading community?
I'm surprised at all the incredible talent, first off. People really need to give indies more of a chance. There are a metric ton of great authors in every genre.
If you could say anything to your readers what would it be?
Thank you. No seriously, thank you. Every damn book counts. It would be difficult to firmly appreciate how much the sale of one book makes me feel validated. I honestly can't thank my fans enough and I hope to do right by them.
Where can people connect with you?
