Wendy Dalrymple interview
AUTHOR INTERVIEW
A little introduction:
Wendy Dalrymple crafts highly consumable sweet romances and Florida gothic horror. When she’s not writing happily-ever-afters and tropical thrillers, you can find her camping with her family, painting (bad) wall art, and trying to grow as many pineapples as possible.
When did your love of books begin?
I’ve been a reader my whole life! As early as preschool I remember reading along with picture books and vinyl records. By the second grade I was reading a book a day, mostly R.L. Stine and The Babysitter’s Club. Now as an adult I love to read everything from horror to romance, memoirs and non-fiction. I also love children’s literature and have a huge library of children’s books.
When did you start to have the wish to become an author?
As soon as I learned to read I knew I wanted to write as well. When I was in the third grade the only thing I asked for Christmas was an electric typewriter — and I got it. Since then I’ve written countless children’s books, screenplays, short stories, flash fiction and over thirty novellas and romance novels.
How have you found the process for becoming an author?
The writing part is always a work in process; I will never stop learning the craft. Honestly, it’s all of the other parts of being an author that are a challenge from marketing to learning all of the ropes of self-publishing. The modern indie author has to wear so man hats if they want to be successful.
What would you say to those wanting to become an author?
Write! Write the kind of things that you want to read. Write because you love it. Everything else can come after.
Tell us about your book/books:
The vast majority of my catalog are short, sweet romcoms, usually featuring everyday people in unusual situations. However I also love gothic romance and horror and have a few horror short stories and novellas to my name.
What do you love about the writing/reading community?
If you could say anything to your readers what would it be?
I’m so grateful to anyone that gives my stories their time! I’ve put my heart into every word and it means the world to me when anyone gives my writing a look.
Where can people connect with you?
