Lou Kemp interview
AUTHOR INTERVIEW
When did your love of books begin?
When I was about 6 I started reading about 6 books a week (the local library limit on books to check out) I took it logically on the fiction side, alphabetically so I wouldn't miss anything in the children's side.
When did you start to have the wish to become an author?
In my late teens.
How have you found the process for becoming an author?
It was wonderful when all you had to do was write. Marketing and following up on marketing things is a pain. The organizations out there for writers are great, especially the Sisters in Crime and the MWA.
What would you say to those wanting to become an author?
Do not be afraid to show your work to people when you are ready. Friends and family will pat you on the head and tell you it is wonderful, but you won't get better until you show it to others.
Tell us about your book/books:
Early on, I wrote horror, then mysteries, and now magical realism mixed with both. Past credits in MWA anthologies included the beginnings of the Celwyn series. I've just published book 2, The Raven and the Pig. There is also a prequel (The Violins Played before Junstan) and a companion book (Farm Hall) that features one of the series main characters. Series Pitch: It is 1865 and an immortal magician, an automat, and a widower from the Sudan travel the globe with the same camaraderie of the team in Caleb Carr's Alienist series. As they journey around the world, they encounter many things that cannot be explained. When they join Captain Nemo and Jules Verne in their adventures, they find there are many things that will never be explained.
What do you love about the writing/reading community?
I find about 99% of the authors are very open to sharing info and helping new and emerging authors. Some of them go out of their way to help and advise.
If you could say anything to your readers what would it be?
I hope you enjoy the path of Celwyn, Bartholomew and Kang on their adventures. I've written four of the books, and am in progress on the fifth.
