Catherine Mellen interview

 AUTHOR INTERVIEW

A little introduction:

My name is Catherine Mellen.  In 2018, I walked into my hometown police department to report my abusers connection into multiple unsolved murders in my hometown of Lowell Massachusetts.  I then shattered my silence on my childhood trauma and family secrets through my blog, poetry and published books.

When did your love of books begin?

My love for books began when the RIF bus (Reading Is Fundamental) would show up at my elementary schools and allowed me to take up to three books at a time.

When did you start to have the wish to become an author?

When I was about fourteen years old, but shamed by the childhood I lived, I became a cook for nearly three decades.

How have you found the process for becoming an author?

It was not easy at first.  The anxiety and the overall process can be overwhelming at times.

What would you say to those wanting to become an author?

Stick with your dreams.  Edit, edit, edit and when you are done, edit again.

Tell us about your book/books:

I have two self-published poetry books Christmas in Poetry Land which is a delightful collection of holiday poetry and Survivor's Mind which is a poetic memoir detailing my childhood trauma and family secrets through words of poetry.  I just recently published through NFB Publishing, A Childhood Tragedy Under A Mother's Watch: Part One 1975-1982 Lowell Massachusetts which is a graphic detail of my childhood through ages five-twelve years of age.   A Life Given To Me: Part Two 1982-2019 Lowell Massachusetts will be available in June 2022.

What do you love about the writing/reading community?

The support, encouragements and friendships created are outpouring and heartwarming.

If you could say anything to your readers what would it be?

Thank you for helping me to not be a secret anymore.

Where can people connect with you?
