A little welcome from the author:

Trained as a scientist, Jack Croxall concluded a life in the lab wasn't for him. After discovering a passion for words and stories he is now a writer living in Nottinghamshire!

Books & thoughts on them:

  • Tethers: 5 stars out of 5
Set in Victorian era England this is a book that sees two young teens have a discovery that leads to them leaving their sleepy village for the first time in their lives as they set out on an adventure which includes chases, sword fights, boats, guns, mystery and so much more in a story that draws the reader in and takes them on the ride of their lives.  I had worried that being set in the Victorian era may detract from my enjoyment of this book but Jack Croxall manages to set up a very atmospheric story that I loved and found to be perfectly written.  This is a book I really can't recommend highly enough.

  • Unwoven (Book 2 in the Tethers trilogy): 5 stars out of 5
Following on from the events of Tethers we return to once again pick things up with the characters we grew to love in the first instalment but things have moved on and when things take a turn for the worse, another journey begins that will see us venture across land and sea and battle many things but can our heroes keep everyone safe from the growing dangers?  This book is another fantastic piece of writing by Jack and he continues to show an understanding of how to use his skills to develop an atmosphere which draws in the reader once again and find they can't put the book down.

  • Torn (Book 3 in the Tethers trilogy): 5 stars out of 5
With the trilogy drawing to an end Jack Croxall delivers a final instalment that is less than half the number of pages of the first book in the trilogy, however, he has saved some of his best work for this story and works hard to ensure that he ties up everything so that the reader is left with a satisfying end that doesn't leave the frustration of some things being left unanswered.  The descriptive writing, well delivered character dialogues and brilliantly thought out storyline all work to deliver a fantastic end to a trilogy that is well worth a read.

  • X: 5 stars out of 5
Imagine you are a 15 year old who has been keeping a journal/diary.  Now imagine that the zombie apocalypse is upon you and you are writing whilst trying to hide and simply survive.  This is a short story that Croxall delivers in a way that leaves the reader wanting more and thankfully this short story did lead to a full length novel as the writing is brilliant and leaves the reader feeling uncomfortable, like it should.

  • Wye: 5 stars out of 5
The zombie apocalypse is upon us and in England we see a 16 year old deliver their story in the format of a journal/diary.  I don't often read zombie novels but as this one is delivered in such a unique style and having loved previous work by the author I decided I would give this a read.  This is a story that leaves you feeling uncomfortable thanks to the fact you are reading it in the first person delivery style that Croxall managed to use so well to create the short story X and here he really does run with it and takes the reader on a ride that takes no prisoners.  This is a book I highly recommend as it feels so different than anything I have ever read before (other than X).

  • Anchor Leg: 5 stars out of 5
Jack Croxall is an author who can deliver amazing stories across different genres and Anchor Leg sees him deliver a story set 750 million miles from Earth.  This book is based around humanity having expanded its reach out to the furthest reaches of the Solar System and setup numerous space stations known as the Relay, but when something goes wrong on one of the stations and Seren Temples is sent with her team to investigate what has happened can she keep herself and her team safe?  This is a fast paced story which drew me in very quickly and was one of the best space based stories I have ever read.
