A little introduction:
Hi, I'm Emy, otherwise known as Bobs and Books and I live in South Wales. I first fell in love with books aged 4 when my granddad took me to the library. I received my very own library card that day and it made me feel like I had a super power. That actual card is still kept in my purse today and it's a very treasured possession.
All through school I loved to read which led to me choosing English Literature at university where I moved to Swansea and embraced my love for Dylan Thomas.
I started a book club in my first workplace and it went down so well so I kept it going. I attended Hay festival regularly, and any book signings I could go to, I was all over it. Meeting David Nicholls was a personal highlight.
What made you start your blog?
Lockdown hit and living alone (and without support bubbles) I started to feel lonely and reading was my outlet. I managed to read 106 books in 2020 and my passion was stronger than ever.
Which part of having the blog do you love most?
I’ve always loved Twitter and saw so many positive messages, I also got more interested in goodreads and saw lots of people saying they got books from Netgalley. Netgalley was like a whole other world of books for me! I signed up, somehow paced myself, and thought I’d explore book twitter. I loved it.
I was reading blogs and was so impressed at the quality of reviewing and it opened my eyes to new genres, new styles and more. I saw blog tours and really wanted to join in so thought I’d give it a go.
Where did the name for your blog come from?
As much as I love books, I am obsessed with my hair so Bobs was a natural addition to my blog name! I love discussing a mix of genres on my blog, subject matters that mean something to me, and any books that makes me gasp or squeal in delight when I get book post. (My postman actually says that although some of the books fit through my letter box he prefers to knock just to see my joy at book post!)
What do you love most about books?
I love the inclusivity of books and there truly is something for everyone.
What genres do you blog about?
I love a variety of genres including romance, crime, historical, contemporary, women’s, LGBTQIA, and non fiction- mostly memoirs. I try to keep my blog as diverse as possible so people reading can find something for them.
What are your favourite books?
My all time favourite books are Tipping the Velvet and Fingersmith by Sarah Waters, Sweet Sorrow David Nicholls, and of course Alice in Wonderland. Their Eyes were Watching God is also such a powerful read. In terms of classics, Emma or Jane Eyre.
What are your 3 top reads from the last year?
My top three read that ive read in the last 12 months are Magpie Elizabeth Day- that twist is phenomenal, Hostage Clare Mackintosh – not sure I took a breath throughout, and Selena Goddens Mrs Death Misses Death- wonderfully sharp and experimental.
